Southridge Farm and Nursery – Walpole, MA

We heard Southridge had some animals to visit so hit the road to go say hi. We weren’t quite sure what we would find, but eventually found our way up a long narrow drive and spotted the barns on the left. I have to say, this has been one of our stranger visits. It is basically this huge rock and mulch yard with large trucks and bulldozers everywhere, loading up trucks for landscapers and contractors. We parked along the fence near the animals on the side of the parking lot to see who was there.
We found a large cow, some very friendly goats, what I think was a Llama, and a whole mess of ducks and chickens. We then peered around the corner and found a beautiful peacock just walking around the lot minding his own business. Across the road, we spotted two horses and bravely crossed through the trucks to go see them. They were very sweet horses who really enjoyed being pet.
As an added bonus, my two year old son happens to love trucks so we spent some time oogling the bulldozers and dump trucks as well. Not sure that this will be a weekly visit for us but it was fun to meet some new animals and I think they appreciated the visit as well.
We got lost a few times trying to find the place and actually stumbled upon the Walpole Town Forest while out that way. After a half hour at the farm, we went a few mins down the road to the town forest and went for a hike. Turned into a really fun day! Check out more on the Walpole Town Forest!
Few things to note:
- It is a very busy “construction site” so keep a close tab on your kids – I made mine hold my hands the entire time
- Everyone was very nice and happy to see us visiting the animals, even though it seems like more of a working site than a farm
- We couldn’t quite find it the first time around, its just around the bend on South St and then up a long windy driveway
