Soule Park and Splash Pad – Chestnut Hill, MA

It was a hot hot day and we wanted to meet up with some friends in Newton.  We decided to check out a splash pad near them to cool down and play. Now, I know this isn’t exactly “South of Boston,”  but we consider anything within a 45 min drive doable! Especially, if it means not having to shlep into Boston and dealing with parking/traffic.

The splash pad and playground were located conveniently right off of Rt 9, not far from the Chestnut Hill Mall.  There was a free parking lot for visitors as well as clean indoor bathrooms to use.  The area consisted of a soccer field, two playgrounds and a really nice splash pad.  The splash pad was located in the middle of the playground for older kids.  Although, my two year old had no problem getting around this playground.  There was a fun see saw contraption, a spinning wheel to lay on, swings and a huge metal slide.

The splash pad had sprinklers from all directions, a bucket dumping, and a water tunnel to run through.  We were there on a Saturday and while there were a lot of other kids, it didn’t feel too crowded to enjoy ourselves.  There was plenty of shade to lay a blanket down and picnic tables and benches as well.

The other side of the parking lot had another playground geared for toddlers 2-5.  While the playground was nice, the splash pad really made the drive worth while.

Few things to note:

  • Playground is made of wood chips – might be smart to bring water shoes since kids were running barefoot between water and play
  • Many kids brought buckets and toys to play with in the splash pad
  • Free!
