Lowes Build and Grow – Dedham, MA
It was a rainy day and the kids were bursting to get out of the house. We were fresh out of ideas/places to go so I did a little online digging. Low and behold – Lowes was offering a free Kids clinic. It was free, we needed a few home improvement items anyways, so sure, why not! We registered online to save our spots and headed on out to the Lowes in Dedham. The clinic opened at 10 am and already was mobbed. We were guaranteed two kits since we registered in advance but the store manager told us he always makes sure to order more than enough for everyone. He said that he was one of the few stores in the area that participated in the build and grow program and that on rainy days, it was always quite popular.
Both kids were outfitted with a free apron, safety goggles, a patch, hammer to borrow and given a project to build. Tables were setup at the end of each aisle for us to get cracking. My daughter did pretty well hammering her wooden haunted house together and decorating it with stickers, but my son needed a bit more help. They recommend the minimum age for the workshop to be five years old but I think it’s a neat lesson for the younger ones as well. Each time, it’s a different project with a different skill set. The kids got to take the apron, goggles, patch and completed project home with them. Overall, a nice way to get out of the house on a rainy Saturday!
Few things to note:
- It’s only on select Saturdays at 10 am so check the schedule
- Only certain stores offer it. I know Dedham does, not sure what other towns.
