Each year, we look forward to the cranberry harvest celebration in Wareham! It’s a great family fun day, with a little bit of a learning as well, and best yet – kids under 7 are free!
The festival has a few different tiers to it. At the village where you enter, there are numerous things to do with the family. Everything from train rides, to bouncy houses, pony rides, juggling, swan boat rides and non stop live music each day. There is also a huge area of food trucks for lunch, cooking demonstrations and a craft fair. From this main area, you can take a school bus (this was the highlight for my daughter when she was 2) and head on over to the cranberry bogs.
Once at the bogs, there is also a lot going on. Just like you would see in an Ocean Spray cranberry commercial, there are workers standing chest deep in the cranberries harvesting them all. You can then watch as they guide the cranberries up a conveyor belt and eventually into a truck to be enjoyed by cranberry lovers everywhere. There is an area where you are allowed onto the bog to pick a few of your own cranberries to taste as well as wagon rides around the bogs. There are other activities as well for the kids like a ginormous haystack to climb on. For an added cost, you can even take a helicopter ride over the bogs.
The festival was actually designated as one of the Top 100 Events in North America. If you’re around, you should definitely check it out!
Few things to note:
- They often have a LivingSocial deal a few weeks before the festival so be sure to take a look!
